Job description

Staff Software Engineer - Loki Query (Remote, EMEA)

United Kingdom (Remote)

This role is available for candidates located in the UK, Germany, Spain, and Sweden.

What is Grafana Cloud?

Grafana Cloud is our composable observability platform that integrates metrics, logs, and traces with Grafana. It allows our customers to leverage the best open source observability software – including Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, and Tempo – without the overhead of installing, maintaining, and scaling their own observability stack.

As a company, we are remote-first and global, embracing people of diverse experiences and backgrounds to build inclusive teams where every person brings a unique perspective to the software. Our tech stack primarily consists of services written in Go, running on multiple Kubernetes clusters that utilize Cloud object storage.

What will you be doing?

  • Influence our roadmap and shape your own career objectives
  • Collaborate with your team to deliver new features and iterate based on results
  • Drive projects from initial ideation to operational deployment for customers
  • Contribute to open-source projects beyond your team’s scope
  • Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems ensuring reliability, performance, and availability
  • Participate in on-call rotations and own the services you run
  • Mentor team members, participate in design discussions, and collaborate effectively
  • Develop new skills by understanding our cloud products, customer needs, and the codebase of large distributed systems

Given our remote-first approach, strong communication skills and an independent attitude are essential, as we rely on video calls and remote collaboration tools.

What are we looking for in you?

  • A motivated self-starter with a proactive approach
  • Customer-focused mindset with a passion for creating intuitive, user-centric products
  • Pragmatism in tackling complex challenges with iterative, modular solutions
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills suitable for remote teamwork

Requirements:

  • Solid experience with at least one programming language, preferably Go; familiarity with Python, C, C++, Rust, or similar is also valuable
  • Experience managing projects from requirements gathering to delivery in a self-driven manner
  • Experience developing cloud-based software or systems engineering
  • Ability to write clean, robust, and maintainable code

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with Kubernetes
  • Operational experience with Grafana and Prometheus, including on-call responsibilities
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture and distributed systems, or eagerness to learn
  • Familiarity with on-call operations, SRE practices, or infrastructure as code

The UK base salary range for this role is £100,000 - £121,000, with actual compensation depending on experience and skills. Benefits include equity, bonuses, and other perks listed on our careers page.
