Job Description
Checkout.com is on a mission to transform the shopping experience for millions of consumers. As one of our most senior individual contributors in this space, you’ll be instrumental in shaping the architecture and backend foundation of critical new offerings from the ground up. You’ll own pivotal technical decisions across our core services, ensure seamless integration between in-house systems and third-party providers, and work directly with the founding team to build something truly impactful.
What You’ll Do
Design and guide the architecture of our platform: modular, secure, scalable, and maintainable from day one
Define integration patterns across internal services and third-party providers
Own key infrastructure choices (messaging systems, observability, deployment strategies, etc.)
Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, and Mobile Engineers to shape end-to-end journeys
Be hands-on in code when needed, but primarily act as a technical force multiplier for the team
Champion engineering best practices, security standards, and scalability patterns
Mentor the early engineering hires and contribute to hiring plans
You Should Have
Eight or more years' of backend engineering experience, with at least two years as a Staff or Principal Engineer
You have a proven track record of building high-scale consumer systems, ideally with over 500,000 monthly active users.
You bring experience from a regulated environment, with a strong preference for a background in fintech.
You possess deep knowledge of cloud-native architectures (we use AWS) and are highly skilled in a either .NET or Java.
You excel in API-first design, event-driven systems, service orchestration, and defining clean, clear contract boundaries.
You are a strategic thinker who thrives on cross-functional collaboration to achieve outstanding results.
You have a bias for simplicity and pragmatism, and you're driven to ship quickly without ever compromising on quality.
