Hybrid: This position does not require full-time on-site presence. Employees are expected to be onsite up to 3 times per week at our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.

Team Overview

GM’s Motorsports Software team develops cutting-edge IT solutions for Motorsports, enabling innovative interactions with GM’s racing and engineering teams to achieve race victories and apply learnings to vehicle development. The team includes analysts, architects, developers, data engineers, testers, and project managers working closely with GM Motorsports Engineering and Race teams.

Role Summary

The Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership and hands-on software delivery. This senior role involves developing scalable cloud-based systems, leading architecture design, and contributing to high-impact motorsports software projects, especially in aerodynamics systems design.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead a team to develop and maintain GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD modeling, visualization, and analysis, with a focus on modular, scalable systems.
  2. Design solution architectures, lead team consensus, and focus on modern application design, code quality, and integration.
  3. Identify and address value gaps within the aerodynamics team, resolve technical blockers, and ensure smooth project delivery.
  4. Manage scrum story delivery, including architecture, interfaces, build frameworks, testing, and deployment.
  5. Collaborate with team members and support a self-managed, reliable delivery process.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
  • Experience designing and building full-stack applications and cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • At least 5 years in microservices development, with 2+ years in web services design.
  • Proficiency with containerization tools (Kubernetes, Docker), CI/CD, and agile methodologies.
Desired Skills
  • Master’s degree and exposure to aerodynamics engineering.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML, VR frameworks, data streaming tech, and cross-platform development.
  • Leadership experience and familiarity with stateless system models and data serialization.
  • Passion for Motorsports and working in dynamic environments.
