Understanding Recruitment is partnering with a fast-growing fintech in London to hire a Staff Backend Engineer. You will own the backend for a new card issuance platform, ensuring secure handling of funds and seamless integration with wallets for customers and partners.

You will shape architecture, collaborate with product, legal and compliance, and drive the product from first version to launch and continuous improvement. This role offers remote flexibility and a London office option.

I’m partnering with a fast-growing fintech building a stablecoin-native alternative to traditional business banking.

With fresh funding secured and customer demand accelerating, they’re hiring a Staff Backend Engineer to take technical ownership of a new card issuance product, enabling customers and partners to spend directly from their wallets.

Job Responsibilities

• Shape the architecture and build the backend for a new card issuance platform.
• Work with product, legal and compliance to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Design how funds move through the system, anticipating failure scenarios and operational risks.
• Take the product from its first working version through launch and ongoing development.
• Share your card issuance expertise and guide technical decisions across the team.

Skills/Experience Required

• Direct experience building and launching card issuance products within banking, fintech or payments.
• Hands-on ownership of backend systems that move and account for customer funds.
• An understanding of how regulatory, reporting and operational requirements influence system design.
• Strong architectural judgement, alongside the ability to write and ship production code.
