The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care within his/her scope of practice in the Subacute setting. Responsibilities include delivering safe patient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The nurse guides patient and family teaching and supervises other nursing personnel while maintaining professional standards. The RN is responsible and accountable for the care of assigned patients, communicating with physicians, the Subacute Unit Director, Charge RN, and other staff about changes in patient condition, diagnostic results, and symptoms. The nurse must respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or treatment response. Collaboration with other departments ensures quality care, efficient patient flow, and proper unit organization. The RN also ensures compliance with regulations, standards, and hospital policies, and actively participates in performance improvement activities, meetings, and in-services. Acts as a resource for staff as appropriate.
