Under the direct supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, the Staff Pharmacist I oversees and is responsible for the efficient day-to-day operations of the pharmacy, ensuring that all prescriptions are prepared, dispensed, and distributed in compliance with written policy, procedures, guidelines, and state and federal regulations.
Shift Hours: 1:30PM-10:00PM Monday-Friday.
Responsibilities:
- Obtains and maintains appropriate knowledge and understanding of Community Hospice and Community Hospice Pharmacy services, including values, policies, procedures, and related clinical practice settings.
- Learns and follows established departmental rules, procedures, policies, quality-improving objectives, environmental, safety, or infection control standards.
- Develops a thorough knowledge of basic pharmacy duties, which may include:
- Entering orders into computerized patient profiles for pharmacist verification
- Maintaining patient demographic and medication profiles in computer systems
- Providing drug information such as dosage forms, strengths, costs, and package sizes to patients, nurses, and physicians
- Keeping files, records, and communication organized
- Answering telephone calls on the pharmacist line within 3 rings
- Repackaging, labeling, handling, and storing pharmaceuticals
- Packaging medication orders for delivery
- Using and maintaining equipment and facilities
- Maintaining Schedule II drug usage logs and inventory counts
- Identifying and preventing medication errors
Maintains knowledge of pharmacy services including:- Medical terminology and abbreviations common to prescribing and dispensing
- Drug names and classifications
- Medication order and prescription interpretation
- Pharmaceutical calculations
- Federal and State laws governing pharmacy practice and controlled substances
- Aseptic techniques and preparation procedures for sterile dosage forms
Performs aseptic compounding of sterile parenteral admixtures, including proper technique, labeling, quality control, and visual inspection.Monitors drug therapy for appropriateness, interactions, and contraindications.Counsels patients on OTC and prescription medications.Reviews prescriptions for accuracy and potential issues, discussing clarifications with prescribers.Provides drug information to healthcare professionals and patients as needed.Checks the accuracy of prescriptions filled by technicians, including sterile admixtures.Ensures proper technique and accuracy in preparing pharmaceutical products.Works independently and interacts effectively with the healthcare team.Facilitates the safe transport of medications and supplies.Operates pharmacy technology in accordance with policies and instructions.Learns procedures for opening and closing the pharmacy.Uses effective communication skills with patients, healthcare professionals, and co-workers.Performs other tasks as assigned.Qualifications:
- Minimum two (2) years experience in retail and institutional pharmacy practice.
- Experience in aseptic compounding.
- Successful completion of the Staff Pharmacist I probationary period.
- Currently licensed as a pharmacist in Florida.
- Currently licensed or actively seeking licensure as a consultant pharmacist in Florida.
