Job description
Overview

Ward 6D offers a supportive and learning environment which endeavours to constantly develop the service, in order that our patients can receive the highest quality and most up-to-date care. The post involves delivering holistic care to acutely unwell patients and those with chronic respiratory illnesses across a wide range of thoracic conditions.

The successful candidate will be involved in medication delivery including intravenous fluids, planning, implementing and evaluating care, and will support patients through cancer diagnosis and managing symptoms. They will rotate from day to night duty and contribute to high standards of documentation and communication.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver holistic care to very acutely unwell patients and those with chronic respiratory illnesses requiring frequent treatment, across a broad range of thoracic conditions.
  • Involve in medication delivery including intravenous fluids and management of thoracic conditions (e.g., COPD, asthma, chest drain/pleural management for pneumothorax and pleural effusions, pulmonary embolisms).
  • Plan, implement and evaluate care; manage long-term conditions; facilitate patient discharge and ensure patient flow within the trust.
  • Record patient observations in a timely manner and escalate appropriately with effective communication.
  • Contribute to home NIV/BiPAP care and other respiratory support as part of a patient-centred approach.
  • Provide high-quality nursing care to complex respiratory patients while maintaining high standards of documentation and communication.
  • Adapt to a rotating shift pattern (day and night) and work within a forward-thinking team focused on positive patient experiences for patients and their relatives/carers.
