The birthplace of the Paralympic Games, we’ve been serving patients since 1944, creating a different philosophy and approach to the management of spinal cord injuries. We lead the way in the treatment and care of those with spinal cord injuries and are proud to have established an international reputation for the quality of our services.

The National Spinal Injuries Centre offers band 5 nursing opportunities for candidates interested in working in either an acute or rehabilitation environment.

Ideal candidates will have an interest in spinal cord injury, be self-driven, energized, and committed to providing high standards of nursing care. A patient-first philosophy, self-awareness, strong interpersonal skills, and a proactive approach to professional development are essential. We support individuals who wish to challenge themselves and become leaders in the profession.

Responsibilities include:

1. Being a member of a multidisciplinary team aiming to deliver a coordinated, comprehensive, and holistic service for patients within the NSIC.
2. Acting in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct, ensuring colleagues also adhere to the Code.
3. Supervising the nursing team, formulating care programmes based on patient needs and current research/guidelines.
4. Delivering planned nursing care safely and effectively, considering patient and family views.
5. Updating care plans as appropriate.
6. Taking charge of the ward regularly.
7. Holding the Unit Bleep as part of professional development on occasion.
