    Job overview

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Staff Nurse post within the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

    The post holder will work within the Spinal Outpatients Department providing inpatient and outpatient services. You will be self-driven, striving to provide a high standard of nursing care.

    Working with both NSIC Outpatients and In-patients within the Spinal Outpatients Department.

    Main duties of the job
    1. Assist in the daily organisation and management of Spinal Outpatient Clinics.
    2. Regularly take charge of clinic sessions, as determined by the Department Sister and in line with clinic activities.
    3. Preserve the patient’s privacy and dignity.
    4. Participate in registration nurse training and for multi-disciplinary team training.
    5. Care for out-patients admitted to wards.
    6. Provide care for children and young people.
    7. Participate in Clinical Supervision to enhance patient care.
    8. Have a broad knowledge and understanding of all relevant Trust policies and procedures.

    Essential criteria
    1. Registered Nurse/Awaiting NMC PIN
    2. Evidence of further continued professional development
    3. Post qualification experience in relevant specialty
    4. Hold / be working towards an NMC approved mentoring qualification
    Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
    Essential criteria
    1. High self-motivation plus ability to motivate others
    2. Good time management skills
    3. Ability to work required shifts
    4. Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to negotiate
    5. Ability to manage and prioritise own caseload with supervision
    6. Ability to solve problems and use initiative
    7. Willingness to undergo training (e.g. medications)
    8. Knowledge of the NMC code of conduct
    9. Ability to maintain a safe clinical environment conducive to patient care
    10. Adaptable to change
    11. Knowledge of Research based practice
    12. Willingness to develop teaching skills

    2. Experience of teaching students, HCAs and qualified staff

    5. Post registration experience working in an acute hospital setting
    SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
    1. Able to travel to other sites and off-site as necessary
    2. Maybe required to work in other departments if requested to do so
