We are a friendly dedicated team of Paediatric Nurses and Paediatric consultants. The department is committed to continuous improvements in the service and benefits from having a Paediatric Nurse Educator.
The Safari Day Unit provides nursing care and support to children and young people aged 0-16 years in a children’s environment, located on the 1st floor of the Maternity building with 10 designated beds.
Main duties of the job
We are currently looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Paediatric Nurse with experience and a passion for general paediatrics. The Safari Day Unit caters to various surgical specialties including ENT, dental, orthopaedics, gastroenterology, and urology. We also provide services such as MRI, food challenges, endocrine tests, and ward attenders for intravenous infusions or blood transfusions.
The post holder should be a registered children’s nurse, possess excellent communication skills, and be keen to promote clinical excellence within our team.
We support the development of our paediatric nurses through continuing professional development opportunities including PILS/APLS, Venepuncture and cannulation, and progression to Band 6. A supernumerary period and mentorship will be provided at the start of the role, along with participation in our preceptorship programme, enabling you to qualify as a student Supervisor by the end of your first year.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Provide high standards of holistic, family-centred care to children and their families, acting as a role model and expert clinical practitioner. Support the senior sister in managing the clinical area, including staff management, acting as team leader, and addressing developmental needs through IPR. Undertake delegated responsibilities in the absence of the Ward/Unit Manager. Flexibility to work across different children’s areas as needed.
