Job description
Overview

The post holder is responsible for pre-operative nursing and medical assessment of patients being prepared for a variety of surgical procedures. They will provide a comprehensive nursing and medical assessment, ensuring that all necessary investigations and results are collated prior to the patient's admission. Liaise with Anaesthetist/ Surgeons regarding potential medical problems and issues regarding surgery. The role will also include appropriate onward referral to primary and secondary care providers to ensure pre-operative health is optimised. Act as the co-ordinator of care until the patient is admitted for surgery. The post holder will adhere to NMC Code of Practice at all times and ensure ward compliance with and application of hospital policies and procedures.

Governance and Clinical Practice

Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of Governance systems in the ward/department relating to Risk Management, Health and Safety and Controls Assurance. The Post holder, will undertake autonomous working in completing face to face and telephone pre assessments.

Development

Learning of triage clinics will also be expected after one year of working within the department.
