Frimley Park Hospital's Paediatric Emergency Department invites experienced and enthusiastic Paediatric Staff Nurses to join a supportive, fast-paced team dedicated to high-quality child-centred care.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team in a department averaging 30,000 paediatric presentations annually, receive structured development and mentorship, and contribute to a learning environment for students and newly qualified nurses graduating in September 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care.
  • Give and receive regular reports on patient progress to the NIC.
  • Participate in the checking and administration of prescribed and controlled drugs including IV medication.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Support learning environment for students and newly qualified nurses.
  • Act as a role model to all in the ED.
  • Act as a resource for the ED on child protection issues.
  • Ensure all equipment is in good working order and report any defects.
  • Report untoward events and complete incident reports.
  • Keep up to date with statutory and mandatory training.
  • Assist in achieving the department's performance indicators.
  • Any other duties to facilitate smooth running of the department.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for experienced and enthusiastic Paediatric Staff Nurseto join our supportive, dynamic, and forward-thinking team in the Paediatric Emergency Department at Frimley Park Hospital.

Our department sees approximately 30,000 children annually, aged 0–17 years, presenting with a wide range of conditions from minor injuries and illnesses to major trauma and resuscitation. Patient safety and high-quality, child-centred care are at the heart of everything we do.

You will be supported by a dedicated Practice Development Lead and a structured Staff Nurse Development Programme, helping you build key emergency nursing skills.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of a team of nurses, health care assistants and the wider multidisciplinary team and be responsible for the assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating of nursing care.

The fast-paced environment of Paediatrics ED means our staff have to be adaptable in adjusting their priorities to patient and departmental needs which can change rapidly. We are looking for motivated and flexible nurses that are able to adapt to this ever-changing environment, whilst keeping patient safety and compassion at the forefront of everything they do.

  • To give and receive regular reports on the progress of patients, reporting any changes, immediately to the NIC
  • To participate in the checking and administration of prescribed and controlled drugs in accordance with Trust policy including IV medication
  • To always maintain confidentiality
  • Maintain a learning environment enabling student's and NQN's to achieve their learning objectives
  • Act as a role model to all
  • Act as a resource for the ED for child protection issues
  • To ensure all equipment is in good working order and ready for immediate use. Report any defects
  • To report any untoward events/problems affecting patients or staff and completing an incident report
  • To be up to date with all statutory and mandatory training
  • To assist in the achievement of the departments performance indicators.
  • Any other duties, which may be requested by the manager, to facilitate a smooth running of the department
