Job description

Lulworth ward is a Gold accredited acute general surgical ward with a friendly and professional team that will provide an ideal environment for applicants to develop their skills, knowledge and competency in the challenging demands of caring for the acute surgical patient. We have on ward support from a clinical practice educator and work closely with the relevant specialist nurses and also support from the discharge team for the complex discharges.

Lulworth ward is a 31 bed ward where you will need to be able to care for patients before and after surgery and be involved in all aspects of care from admission to discharge. Many patients are step-downs from the critical care unit and require high levels of intervention / support. You will need to be able to adapt to the changing workload whilst delivering compassionate, safe high-quality care.

The successful applicant will be joining a positive, friendly and supportive team focused on goals driven by patient experience and evidence based best practice.

Please be aware that this role is not currently eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants should be aware of the requirement to independently obtain ongoing right to work in the UK beyond the expiry of any temporary or time-limited permissions. Evidence of this will need to be shared with the HR Team to ensure our records remain up to date.

  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of patients whilst promoting safe, effective and timely discharge
  • To contribute towards the smooth running and development of the department through effective teamwork and delegation
  • To maintain patient safety by conducting risk assessments, infection control protocols and care plans promptly
  • To contribute to a learning environment, coaching students and sharing skills with other staff.
  • To contribute to the cleanliness and tidiness of the ward environment adhering to ward protocol.
  • To work within codes of practice and professional guidelines

We currently have a fixed term vacancy for a committed and enthusiastic individual to complement the well established friendly and professional team. The team are dedicated in delivering high quality care to patients.

Part time / Full time and flexible working considered. Posts will include rotation on to night duty with the option of permanent night assignments.
