Job Description:

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

There are 4 permanent, fulltime posts of 37 hours per week, with a rotational shift pattern.

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.

Applicants are invited to join our enthusiastic and innovative team within Glasgow Royal Infirmary Intensive Care Unit/High Dependency service. There is an expectation that the successful candidate will appreciate the need for adaptability to meet the needs of the Critical Care service. Critical Care covers level 2 and 3 patients and regular rotation between all areas is encouraged and will be required in coming months to meet the demands of the service. At this current time posts are available in Intensive Care and Surgical High Dependency. We would be keen to encourage colleagues with previous Critical Care experience to apply.

The Intensive Care and High Dependency Units care for a defined patient group who require complex interventions in the form of ventilatory support – invasive/ noninvasive, cardiovascular support and renal support. Glasgow Royal Infirmary also provides ICU/HDU tertiary support for the specialties of Burns and Plastics; Pancreatitis and Orthopaedics. We are seeking motivated individuals who strive to deliver patient centred care competently with an emphasis on the progression of service. Successful candidates will be offered a 12 month Competency Based Programme. On completion of this programme there will be a personalised self-development plan including the Critical Care Course which is accredited by Glasgow Caledonian University. There is also supported funding for management SVQ courses, NES courses and Masters at West of Scotland University.

As well as having current NMC registration it is also essential you have evidence of continual professional development, basic IT skills, good communication skills and enthusiasm for working in a Critical Care environment.

There is an established Quality Initiative programme surrounding patient centred care so you should be a candidate with a “can do” attitude who will embrace change.
