Staff Nurse - Health Based Place of Safety

Staff Nurse - Health Based Place of Safety, Band 5 Permanent - Full Time - 37.5 hours per week

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Mental Health Nurse or a Registered Learning Disability Nurse, Band 5, to join us in Greenwich within our Health Based Place of Safety (s136 suite) based at Oxleas House, Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The post holders will be part of a team working 24/7 to provide a high quality and dedicated specialist service to those in mental health crisis.Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust has worked towards creating a centralised two bedded Health Based Place of Safety following a London wide review of provision of Health Based Places of Safety.

The successful candidates will be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills, clinical expertise, a flexible problem-solving approach and to take part in Quality Improvement projects to improve patient care. You will be expected to work collaboratively as part of the Health Based Place of Safety team and wider team working in Oxleas House.

You need to be a passionate role model in delivering care as well as keen to develop and build on your management and leadership skills. You will receive support and frequent supervision to help develop within this team.Please note, Oxleas operates a probationary period, further information available on request.

Main duties of the job
  • Leading and supporting junior staff to deliver person centred care
  • Administration of medication and knowledge of medication management
  • Ensure that all nursing and MDT practice is delivered in accordance with the legal 135/ 136 frameworks using up to date evidence-based practice within the HBPoS facility.
  • Demonstrating professionalism through role modelling and compassionate care.
  • Provide collective and compassionate leadership to the team.

Job responsibilities
  • Working autonomously within the parameters of the role leading on implementing the delivery of quality nursing care, contributing to the physical, psychological, social, recreational and spiritual care in a recovery- focused way through therapeutic engagement and activities, and taking steps to address any issues that arise.
  • Leading on and undertaking activities to ensure that the fundamentals of care are met - nutrition, hydration, hygiene, comfort, emotional and social support.
  • Co-ordinating and evaluating collaborative patient-centred care; getting feedback and improving plans with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
  • Liaising and working positively with members of the multi- disciplinary team and partner organisations.
  • Administering, and monitoring the side-effects of, medication; monitoring service user compliance.

Qualifications
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse and/or Registered Learning Disabilities Nurse
Skills
  • IT Skills with good written and verbal communication
  • Skilled in supervision of others, and in providing critical and constructive feedback.
Experience
  • Knowledge of relevant Professional and Clinical legislation
  • Experience of shift co-ordination.
