Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 RN to join the Emergency Department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

We are a designated adult Major Trauma Centre, one of only 22 in England, and a standard Trauma Centre for Paediatrics. Our colleagues from the dedicated children's Emergency Department at the co-located Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital support us in caring for these patients.

The Emergency Department includes a Resuscitation area with 5 adult bays, 25 Major spaces, a dedicated Urgent Treatment Centre supported by a GP service and Emergency Nurse Practitioners, and a 12-chair Ambulatory Clinical Decision’s Unit. The ED is also supported by an embedded mental health liaison team provided by Sussex Partnership NHS Trust.

The ED is a busy, clinically diverse environment where you will work across all areas, supporting patients arriving by various means, including ambulance. Expect a fast-paced, challenging environment requiring flexibility and responsiveness to changing circumstances.

We welcome applications from those with a UK NMC registration. Currently, we are not hiring internationally qualified nurses requiring sponsorship.

We seek enthusiastic, motivated nurses able to thrive in a dynamic environment. Ideally, applicants will have some acute experience.

Main duties include:

  • Delivering high-quality, compassionate care tailored to individual needs, promoting health and independence.
  • Demonstrating attitudes and behaviors aligned with NHS Values.
  • Working as part of a clinical and care team to meet patient needs.
  • Carrying out clinical tasks independently or under supervision, depending on experience and competency.
  • Developing personal clinical competence, leadership, and reflective practice skills.

We follow the National Curriculum and Competency Framework for Emergency Nursing and are committed to supporting your development to become a confident and proficient Emergency Nurse.

We welcome applications from those with UK NMC registration. We are not currently accepting applications from internationally qualified nurses requiring sponsorship.

At UHSussex, diversity is our strength. We encourage inclusion, support staff through various networks, and are a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) and a Veteran Aware Trust.

We prioritize compassion and empathy for patients and staff, offering extensive wellbeing programs and flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance.

As a university trust and healthcare research leader, we value continuous learning, teaching, and training, supporting your growth throughout your career.

We look forward to your application and welcoming you to UHSussex.
