Job Description:

Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated registered nurses to join our dynamic team dedicated to high standards of patient care.

If you're interested in gaining experience in an intensive care setting, consider joining our nursing team.

Our Cardiac Intensive Care Unit specializes in nurse-led fast-track recovery for elective and emergency cardiac surgery patients undergoing procedures like CABG, valve replacement, and dissection repair. The unit is busy and dynamic, requiring nurses who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. It also supports patients requiring level 3 ongoing critical care interventions post-operatively.

The main responsibilities of the Cardiac Intensive Care Nurse include planning, providing, and evaluating skilled, evidence-based care for critically ill patients under supervision of Band 6 and Band 7 nurses.

We welcome applications from those with UK NMC registration. If you hold an overseas nursing qualification and need sponsorship, please note we are not currently hiring internationally qualified nurses directly.

Main duties of the job

The post holder cares for patients immediately post cardiac surgery in an eight-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Patients range from critically ill requiring mechanical ventilation and maximum support to those ready for discharge to the ward. The nurse is experienced in critical care, responsible, and accountable for the care of one to two patients.

The role involves initiating, facilitating, and evaluating holistic, evidence-based patient care in accordance with UHS NHS Foundation Trust policies and the NMC code of conduct. The nurse works as part of a team to ensure a safe environment for patients, relatives, and carers. They support shift leaders and supervise junior staff.

We offer an orientation program, a supportive team environment, and support for professional development, including working towards completing an ITU course. We promote continuous learning and personal growth.

Working for our organization

At UHSussex, diversity is our strength. We prioritize patient care, as reflected in our Outstanding for Caring CQC rating. We value your unique experiences and encourage success through various Staff Networks and support systems. We are a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) and a Veteran Aware Trust.

We treat patients and staff with compassion and empathy. Our Wellbeing Programme supports staff health. As a leading healthcare research organization, we emphasize learning, teaching, and training to help you grow and develop throughout your career.

We look forward to your application and welcoming you to UHSussex.
