Job description

Our busy CYP Daycare and Outpatients unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital

Sees over 6,000 patients a year, requiring systemic anti-cancer therapy, radiotherapy, and supportive care, delivered by our dedicated team. The age range of our patients is from 1 to 24 years old, making CYPDU a very unique unit.

Candidate Requirements and Expectations
  • Drive and passion to bring ideas forward and lead projects to improve the patient journey.
  • Qualification in oncology or a related specialty is essential for a Band 6 position; we support your professional development.
  • Active participation in unit leadership, managing the service in line with trust values and ongoing improvements.
  • Exceptional communication skills and positive role modeling to support team development and placements.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct nursing care responsibly and efficiently, in collaboration with the shift co-ordinator.
  2. Develop awareness of the needs of patients with cancer and various treatment modalities.
  3. Work with team members to ensure an efficient, safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients.

Additional Role Details
  • Perform first-level assessment of patient needs, considering physiological, psycho-social, spiritual, and cultural aspects.
  • Assist in patient education for investigations, treatment, and home care.
  • Monitor and manage treatment side effects proactively.
  • Provide skilled nursing care, including wound dressings, drain removal, and urinary catheter insertion, under supervision until competent.
  • Understand protocols for patients involved in clinical trials.
