Come and join our nursing team in the Children and Young Peoples’ Daycare and Outpatients Department!

Are you looking for the next step in your cancer nursing career? Are you a paediatric or adult-trained nurse interested in joining the fantastic Children’s and Young People’s department at the Royal Marsden?

Our busy CYP Daycare and Outpatients department sees over 6,000 patients a year, providing systemic anti-cancer therapy, radiotherapy, and supportive care. The patients range from 1 to 24 years old, making CYPDU a unique unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital. If you're eager to gain experience in cancer care delivery and SACT administration, we want to hear from you!

We seek candidates with drive and passion to bring ideas forward and lead projects to improve the patient journey. A qualification in oncology or a related specialty is essential for a Band 5 role, but we are committed to supporting your development. The candidate will play an active role in unit leadership, managing the service aligned with trust values and ongoing improvements. Exceptional communication skills and positive role modeling are essential to support team development and educational placements.

  • To plan, document, deliver, and evaluate evidence-based nursing care for patients responsibly and efficiently, in collaboration with the shift co-ordinator.
  • To develop awareness and understanding of the needs of patients with cancer and the different treatment modalities used within the unit.
  • To understand the roles and responsibilities involved in managing a shift under the guidance of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.

Responsibilities, under the guidance of the shift co-ordinator, include:

  • Conducting initial assessments to understand the physiological, psycho-social, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and their families, ensuring supportive care.
  • Assisting with patient education regarding investigations, treatments, and home care.
  • Monitoring and managing side effects of treatments, adopting problem-solving approaches to minimize adverse reactions.
  • Participating in the direct delivery of skilled nursing care, such as wound dressings, drain removal, and urinary catheter insertion, under supervision until competent.
