Job description

Come and join our nursing team in the Children and Young People's Daycare and Outpatients Department!

Are you looking for the next step in your cancer nursing career? Are you a paediatric or adult-trained nurse willing to join the fantastic Children’s and Young People’s department at the Royal Marsden?

Our busy CYP Daycare and Outpatients unit sees over 6,000 patients a year, requiring systemic anti-cancer therapy, radiotherapy, and supportive care, delivered by our team. The age range of our patients is 1 to 24 years old, making CYPDU a very unique unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital. If you want to gain experience in cancer care delivery and SACT administration, we want to hear from you!

We are looking for candidates with the drive and passion to bring ideas forward and lead projects to improve the patient journey. A qualification in oncology or a relevant specialty is an essential requirement for a Band 5 role, but we will support you in this journey. The candidate will be expected to take an active role in unit leadership, managing the service in line with trust values and ongoing improvements. The successful candidate will have exceptional communication skills and demonstrate positive role modelling to support team development and our pre- and post-registration placements.

The main responsibilities include:

  1. Planning, documenting, delivering, and evaluating evidence-based nursing care for patients responsibly and efficiently, in collaboration with the shift co-ordinator.
  2. Developing a greater awareness and understanding of the needs of cancer patients and the different treatment modalities administered within the unit.
  3. Understanding the roles and responsibilities involved in managing a shift, under the guidance of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is a world-leading cancer centre committed to providing the best cancer care globally and contributing to advances in diagnosis and treatment. We employ over 4,500 staff across diverse careers including nursing, medical, scientific, radiography, pharmacy, occupational therapy, finance, and administration. Our facilities include hospitals in Chelsea, London, and Sutton, Surrey, as well as a Medical Daycare Unit at Kingston Hospital.

At The Royal Marsden, we understand the value of life and are committed to excellence in everything we do. We offer a stimulating working environment, comprehensive staff benefits, learning and development opportunities, and clear career pathways. We support flexible working arrangements from the point of hire to help employees maintain a healthy work-life balance. We seek employees who aspire to excellence, share our values, and can contribute to our ongoing success.
