Job summary

What the job involves

• Manage and provide all aspects of patient care
• Work to the NMC code of professional conduct, putting the person receiving care first and challenging poor care or practice as soon as it is seen
• Comply with infection prevention and control procedures at all times
• Meet the responsibility to safeguard adults and children, attending the required training
• Maintain accurate care records, including data entry into computerised systems
• Assist other nurses and liaise with the nursing and multidisciplinary team
• Apply current advances in nursing practice and research
• Monitor standards of care and help develop the unit philosophy and an environment that values nursing care
• Take part in clinical governance, including leading a benchmark from the Essence of Care initiative
• Follow Trust policies and guidelines relevant to the unit
• Give due regard to budgetary implications of decisions
• Take part in the Trust risk management, patient care and public involvement strategies, and local bed management

What’s required

Registration & licences

• Active NMC registration as a registered nurse

Experience

• Recent post‑registration nursing experience, or work as a student nurse in the NHS

Skills & knowledge

• General nursing
• Knowledge of the NMC code of conduct
• Knowledge of equality legislation and best practice
• Use of a computer
