Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, passionate, enthusiastic and caring neonatal nurse to become part of the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. CDDFT provides care for babies and their families, at both the University Hospital of North Durham and Darlington Memorial Hospital, in dedicated neonatal units that work closely with the Midwifery and Paediatric departments. With 12 cots at UHND and 8 cots at DMH, we provide care for babies and their families from 30 weeks gestation, but also provide stabilisation for critically ill babies prior to retrieval by the regional transport team. There is a well-developed transitional care provided by the neonatal nursing team which enables babies and their mothers to stay together when requiring additional support.

The successful candidate will join a team of dedicated nurses to work on the Neonatal unit and Neonatal Transitional care, to deliver high quality care to babies and families. You should possess an RN Child, RN or RSCN qualification and hold a current NMC registration.

Please note: The vacancy is for the University Hospital of North Durham and Darlington Memorial Hospital. Full and Part time opportunities available.

Main duties of the job

We are delighted to advertise the Neonatal Staff Nurse post within County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for registered nurses to join our team of experienced neonatal nurses. The post holder will form part of the neonatal team and care for Special care babies, Neonatal transitional care and support the care of high dependency babies. They will plan the care of the babies, promoting family integrated care and be able to provide a supportive environment for the families within the Neonatal and Neonatal Transitional care service. The appointed nurse will receive a period of supernumerary status to ensure support within the service and training and education will be provided to develop neonatal skills and experience in emergency stabilisation of the new-born.

Job Responsibilities

Working as a neonatal nurse caring for the neonates on the unit and the Neonatal Transitional care service and their families. As a neonatal nurse you would be expected to plan the care of the neonate and deliver all aspects of care. To be trained in specialty and able to provide nasogastric tube feeding, able to perform neonatal procedures. The ability to care for high dependence, intensive care and special care babies. Communication is a vital part of neonatal care, to ensure the family are involved in all aspects of care and that the nurse can teach the parents to enable them to be actively involved in their babies' care.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and able to support the medical team in their role. The neonatal nurse is able to work in each neonatal unit, ensuring awareness of all emergency equipment for the department. The neonatal nurse will have a teaching role, to junior members of the team and also to the junior medical staff.
