Job summary

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester is seeking a Band 5 Staff Nurse for the Outpatients Department, specialising in oncology. You will work across two outpatient areas, supporting admissions, dressings, injections and patient assessments, while maintaining high standards of compassionate, evidence-based care.

You will support phlebotomy services after training and liaise with staff at Bloods Closer to Home sites to ensure safe, consistent practice across services.

Job description

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our dynamic Outpatients Department specialising in oncology. This is an exciting opportunity to work across two outpatient areas, supporting a wide range of specialities and helping to ensure the smooth and effective flow of our busy clinics.

The successful candidate will play a key role in assisting with admissions, dressings, injections, and patient assessments, while maintaining high standards of compassionate, evidence-based care. You will also be involved in supporting phlebotomy services (full training provided) and will advise and assist with calls from staff at Bloods Closer to Home sites, ensuring safe and consistent practice across services.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, patient-centred care within the outpatient setting.
• Support clinicians in the assessment, treatment, and management of patients.
• Undertake dressings, injections, and other clinical procedures within competency.
• Confidently work within your own scope of practice and professional limits.
• Adhere at all times to the NMC Code of Conduct, ensuring safe, ethical, and accountable nursing practice.
• Contribute to the safe and effective flow of patients through outpatient clinics.
• Liaise with and provide advice to staff working at Bloods Closer to Home sites.
• Participate in phlebotomy after appropriate training.
• Maintain accurate and timely patient records.
• Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Demonstrate flexibility to meet the changing needs of the service, including working on bank holidays where required.
• You will work alongside our multidisciplinary team to provide high quality holistic care to patients
• You will need to be confident or open to learning and becoming competent in carrying out procedures such as venepuncture, cannulation and ECG's and will need to be able to support more junior members of staff in this capacity
