Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is proud to care for patients in our Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit at Charing Cross Hospital. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic band 5 staff nurse to join the team!
We have a full time position in our SDEC department at Charing Cross Hospital.
You need to be passionate about providing high quality, emergency same day care in this fast paced, evolving and exciting area of acute emergency care. You must have excellent communication skills and be excited about being part of an innovative nursing team. For this band 5 post we require a nurse who has a minimium of 6 months experience as a qualified nurse and competent in administering intravenous medications and fluids.

This is an exciting time to join Same Day Emergancy Care as we increase the numbers of patients attending the service. We see approximately 50-70 patients a day, with varying presentations including renal colic, DVT, cellulitis, low risk chest pain and many more. We work closely with the Emergency Department, taking many patients from the Urgent Care Centre and ED triage, as well as those who are referred in by their own GPs, 111 and 999.

You will be supported by a Senior Charge Nurse and Matron for SDEC

Main duties of the job

  • Carry out planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision.
  • Ensure the assessment, planning.
  • Organise one’s own work load ensuring most effective use of time.
  • Assist in the orientation of new staff and students.
  • Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested.
  • Assist in the teaching and development of nursing assistants and students helping them to achieve their learning outcomes.
  • To keep up to date with current developments in nursing and ensure evidence based practice.
  • Develop new skills and knowledge pertaining to the speciality as advised by the senior sister or charge nurse.

Education/ Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse

Experience

  • 1 year experience within an acute setting, an ED/MAU/SAU or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of quality, standard setting, benchmarking and audit.
  • Knowledge of NMC Code of Professional Conduct
  • Experience of taking charge of the department and managing patient flow
