Job description

Job Summary

The States of Guernsey are looking for a Staff Nurse to join the team in Tautenay Ward.

Tautenay ward is an 8 bedded Older Adult Acute assessment ward, based within the Oberlands Centre and forms part of Guernsey's Specialist Mental Health service.

The post holder will co-ordinate the management of the Ward in the absence of another Registered Nurse and will have responsibility for ensuring that best practice is adopted to maintain high standard of care. Assisting service users with all activities of daily living is a core component of this role. Care will be individualised to each service user's needs and will be always delivered in a dignified and compassionate manner. Service users' views will be respected and where possible they will be included in any decisions around their care. Service user safety is of the highest priority and the post holder will ensure that all States of Guernsey policies and procedures are always adhered to.

The post holder will be expected to act as a mentor to more junior members of staff and may be required to take on additional responsibility within the area of work to support the Senior Staff within the team.

Main duties of the job

  • To assess, develop, implement and evaluate care plans demonstrating high standards of evidence-based care.
  • To work autonomously, recognising changes in patients'/service users' presentation which require intervention, knowing when to escalate to senior staff.
  • To guide, advise and direct other staff in the delivery of programmes of care.
  • To support patients/service users in undertaking activities of daily living within care plans.
  • To undertake the role of health promoter and educator for patients/service users and their support networks.
  • To report all accidents and incidents as per policy and participate in risk management and Quality and Safety processes e.g SWARM.
  • To be accountable for ensuring that safeguards are in place for patients/service users and escalate any safety, safeguarding or risk concerns following the appropriate processes.
