Job summary

Motorway, the UK’s leading online car-selling platform, is seeking a Staff Frontend Engineer to lead frontend across multiple squads. You will own features end to end, write API contracts, and guide migrations while maintaining high standards for security and performance.

You’ll work with TypeScript, React, and Next.js in a server-side rendered stack, shaping AI-enabled workflows and modern frontend practices across the department.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of frontend production experience leading large projects
• Bridge engineering and product with strategic technical decisions
• Recognised as a frontend authority by engineers and product stakeholders
• Deep expertise in modern CSS/SCSS, HTML, and JavaScript frameworks
• Experience writing unit and E2E tests and building CI workflows
• Strong TS/React knowledge (hooks, composition, SSR with Next.js)
• Experience maintaining design systems and leading AI-assisted frontend development
• Experience evaluating vendors and build-vs-buy decisions
• Backend fluency helps but full-stack not required

Responsibilities

• Ship features end to end from design to production
• Author API contracts and maintain technical roadmaps
• Drive consistency across web properties and lead migrations
• Own frontend security, reliability, and performance standards
• Own build and deployment strategy, hosting choices, and vendor decisions
• Develop IC3 engineers into technical leaders
• Lead AI-assisted development and set standards for AI integration
