Motorway is hiring a Staff Frontend Engineer in the United Kingdom. You will lead frontend engineering across squads, shaping product strategy with a technically-grounded, commercially-aware view. The stack is TypeScript/React, Next.js, SCSS, SSR, and you will guide AI-enabled development using Kiro and related tools.

You'll own quality, security, and deployment standards, mentor engineers, and help evolve a design system while driving performance and accessibility across our web properties.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of focused frontend experience building and operating production web apps at scale.
• Ability to bridge engineering and product priorities and defend technical decisions.
• Recognised as a frontend technical authority by engineers and product stakeholders.
• Strong expertise with CSS/SCSS, HTML and modern ECMAScript, and SSR with Next.js.
• Extensive experience writing unit and E2E tests and building CI workflows.
• Deep knowledge of TypeScript and modern React (hooks, composition).
• Interest in leading AI-assisted development as part of workflow.

Responsabilités

• Ship features end to end, building accessible, performant components and shipping with confidence.
• Author API contracts and maintain a technical roadmap with clear trade-offs and success criteria.
• Drive consistency across web properties and lead migrations to newer framework features.
• Set security, data governance, and reliability standards for frontend systems.
• Own build and deployment story, evaluating hosting decisions and build-vs-buy trade-offs.
• Develop IC3 engineers into technical leaders and raise hiring standards.
• Lead AI-assisted engineering and define integration standards for AI tools.
