Job description

We’re looking for a hands-on full-stack Staff Engineer with a strong bias toward action and a drive to create intuitive, user-friendly experiences.

In the Akeneo organisation, each Product Line operates independently under a Single Threaded Owner (STO) at VP level. Within each Product Line, multiple Area Single Threaded Owners (Area-STOs) at Director level oversee several Impact Teams. Each Impact Team, led by an Impact Owner, comprises approximately eight engineers, designers and PMs who work autonomously, following their own processes and methodologies.

Akeneo’s products are recognised worldwide for their ease of use by customers, partners, and market analysts. As we scale and enter a new strategic phase in an increasingly competitive market, delivering a seamless, intuitive user experience is more critical than ever. That’s why we’re forming a brand-new team dedicated to simplify the end-to-end experience across our products, and at every stage of the user lifecycle—from discovery to onboarding, adoption to expansion. We want Akeneo to be the most intuitive and indispensable platform for bringing products to life. And we need your help to make it happen.

As a foundational member of this team, you will play a key role in shaping its direction, driving technical excellence, and delivering real value to our users—one impactful step at a time. You will be expected to own, drive and contribute code to projects to ensure their successful impact within a given appetite.

In this role, you will create solutions to complex problems, optimise existing systems and ensure seamless integration across various technologies and platforms. Your leadership and expertise will be instrumental in driving the success of our engineering initiatives and team. Reporting directly to the Single Threaded Owner (STO), who is extremely passionate about delivering this impact, you will collaborate closely with teams of engineers, product managers, designers and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Technical leadership: Drive technical excellence within the wider engineering team by setting and maintaining best practices and standards, with a focus on front-end engineering (e.g. leading a front-end engineering guild across product lines).
  • Technical ownership: Own the team’s ship vehicles such as the Design System and the Free Trial. Ensure solutions scalability, performance, cost-effectiveness and accessibility.
  • Problem solving: Collaborate with cross-functional teams and across product lines to understand the users jobs to be done (JTBD), identify and solve challenging technical and UX problems (e.g. moving away from product legacy, and contributing to front/back-end decoupling).
  • Unified team: Foster a unified team environment by promoting deep customer-centricity, technical collaboration and open communication (e.g. working with teams to workshop options and think creatively about solving problems).
  • Mentorship: Provide mentorship and guidance to engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement (e.g. deep-dive retrospectives on staff projects).
  • Innovation: Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve our technology stack (e.g. evaluating and prototyping build/buy/partner options).
  • Potential for Team Management: As opportunities arise, take on team management responsibilities, such as stepping into an Impact Owner role.
Qualifications
  • Extensive experience: You have 8+ years of experience in hands-on full-stack software development and a strong background in building high-quality SaaS experiences that scale. Preferably React, PHP, Go, Python and Typescript.
  • Proven track record: You have a history of delivering impact end-to-end as well as taking ownership to turn around projects.
  • Technical expertise: You possess in-depth knowledge of software architecture principles and have successfully designed and implemented complex systems that scale, and have experience decoupling large codebases. You have a solid grasp of modern front-end technologies and frameworks and how they integrate with scalable back-end systems.
  • Leadership: You have demonstrated leadership in previous roles, guiding teams through technical challenges over time and delivering impact directly as well as indirectly.
  • Communication & collaboration: Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, fostering cross-functional alignment and promoting a unified, customer-centric approach to product development.
  • Adaptability: You thrive in a fast-paced, impact focused environment and can handle uncertainties and changing requirements with ease.
  • Team Leadership Experience: Previous experience leading an engineering team, particularly in environments where technical leadership and direct impact go hand in hand (e.g. driving team execution, or acting as a technical lead with management responsibilities).
