Job summary

Syngenta Group in Bracknell is seeking a Staff Engineer for Screening Operations and Logistics to design and implement scalable backend and frontend solutions. You will work at the intersection of technology and agricultural R&D, partnering with engineers, product leaders and scientists to deliver durable systems.

You will lead engineering efforts, uphold quality and documentation standards, and mentor junior engineers while driving performance improvements and AI-assisted capabilities at scale.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience in Python or Java backend engineering.
• Demonstrable experience in software architecture and integration patterns
• Demonstrable experience in AI-assisted engineering with rigorous review
• Demonstrable experience in React or Angular awareness
• Demonstrable experience in quality, test and documentation standards
• Demonstrable experience in screening and logistics workflow learning agility
• Demonstrable experience in technical leadership without line authority
• Strong communication skills and the ability to influence across technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Fluent English, written and spoken
• Demonstrable experience in system design and building scalable solutions
• Demonstrable experience in database design, optimization and performance tuning
• Demonstrable experience in CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices

Responsibilities

• Lead backend development with Python or Java to deliver durable, scalable solutions.
• Define and apply software architecture and integration patterns across systems.
• Oversee AI-assisted engineering with rigorous review processes.
• Contribute to frontend development using React or Angular.
• Maintain quality, testing and documentation standards across projects.
• Drive screening and logistics workflow improvements to reduce technical debt.
• Collaborate with engineers, product, and scientists to translate needs into solutions.
• Communicate technical decisions clearly to diverse stakeholders.
