Job Title: Staff Accountant

Salary: Starting from £39,994 (Depending on Experience)

Term: 2 Year Fixed Term

Location: Peterlee, Co. Durham

About Caterpillar Peterlee

Caterpillar Peterlee is the worldwide source of Cat Articulated Trucks, currently producing an 8-model range used in many industries including mining, construction and aggregates. The facility's manufacturing activities use the latest computer analysis techniques, robotic technology and a state-of-the-art paint plant. Machines from the site are shipped to customers around the world.

The Opportunity

As one of two Legal Entity Staff Accountants, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely completion of accounting processes and reporting, and provide support to the Articulated Trucks facility.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain visibility of the financial inputs and outputs of the Articulated Truck division, including complex global intercompany transactions, act as a trusted business advisor for the Product Line teams, and obtain valuable exposure and experience in a fast-paced environment.

The applicant will also provide additional resource to help the department ensure a successful Mach1 Business Transformation.

What You Will Do

  • Month end routine processes

  • Investigate and resolve issues relating to accounting transactions or systems

  • Collaborating with cross functional partners to ensure robust procedures and accurate accounting records,

  • Looking after Intercompany transactions/netting deal with discrepancies

  • Create detailed departmental spend analysis and distribute to the relevant business partners.

  • Support Legal Entity Manager with month end reporting and ad hoc requests.

  • Support external and internal audits, including Sarbanes Oxley controls

  • Prepare VAT return

  • Month end routine processes, including Journals, Prepayments, Accruals and General Ledger reporting

Business Resources Business Transformation

  • Support Departmental As-Is process mapping and data cleansing requirements.

    • Legal entity point of view

  • Participate in Blueprinting and help department understand changes and future state requirements/impact.

  • Be part of the change to MACH1 from August 2025 onwards as PEGI is phased out and SAP is switched on. Support Legal Entity Manager in transition by owning processes related to your work and building a reliable To-Be state.

Financial Analysis: Knowledge of tools and approaches of financial analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.
Level Working Knowledge:

Financial Reporting: Knowledge of processes, methods, and tools of financial reporting; ability to create and maintain accurate and thorough financial reports.
Level Working Knowledge:

Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:

  • Experience of accounting within a manufacturing environment

  • Experience of Legal Entity and/or compliance reporting

  • Previous experience of SAP

  • Degree or equivalent experience desired

  • Experienced user of MSExcel and MS PowerPoint

  • Adaptability and able to fit into a dynamic and fast-moving accounting team and global business

Additional Information:

  • The role is based on site at Peterlee, 5 days per week.

  • The standard working week is: 08:00 to 16:30 Monday to Thursday and 08:00 to 12:30 Friday.
