Job description

About The Team:

We are looking for a part time Stable Yard Assistant (Technical Support Officer) to join our friendly team based at SRUC Sunnybrae Farm Stables, Walton Road, Stoneywood, Aberdeen on a zero-hour contract.

The Opportunity:

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will be to attend to the care of our equines ensuring high welfare standards are maintained at all times. There will be additional duties of welfare checks for our small herd of ruminants who also reside at Sunnybrae Farm Stables. The facility is used to support the delivery of practical teaching sessions for students undertaking courses at SRUC Craibstone.

Duties will include but will not be limited to:

  • Feeding and watering equines and livestock
  • Health checks equine and livestock, grooming and application of rugs
  • Cleaning stables and field maintenance
  • Leading horses to and from fields and stables

    This is a zero hours contract.

    Hours would be approximately 2.5-5 hrs per week. Shifts are 2.5–3 hrs either 8.30–10.30/11.00am or 3.00-5.00pm. Can be up to 12hrs per week if covering other staff on annual leave.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    This role would suit individuals with a strong interest in equine activities. A National Certificate in Equine Studies/Agriculture/Animal Care or BHS Levels 1 & 2 would be advantageous but not mandatory.

    You should have a responsible attitude and possess the ability to confidently handle and care for equines. This includes experience of providing basic animal care and have practical experience/knowledge of livestock and equines. Further training can be provided in either area if required.

    A flexible approach to work and committed to working at weekends is essential.
