Job description

Applicants are invited for ST4 or above Tier 2 trainee or Clinical Fellow in Paediatrics at Ipswich Hospital. This post is fixed term until the 31st of March 2026.

Job Overview

We are recruiting to maintain a fully staffed rota, seeking passionate doctors who will work alongside our consultants and wider MDT to deliver high-quality care and develop our service. Opportunities include developing subspecialty interests and support with sitting for clinical examinations.

Clinical Duties
  • Attending to and managing paediatric patients in the Children’s Assessment Unit, including referrals from primary care and Emergency Medicine.
  • Leading ward rounds and managing paediatric emergencies.
  • Covering neonatal unit, postnatal ward, and attending to neonatal emergencies on the labour ward and theatres.
  • Working closely with and overseeing Tier 1 doctors and nurse practitioners.
  • Participating in weekly outpatient and rapid referral clinics, and providing acute emergency cover based on training schedules.
  • Undertaking child protection medicals under supervision.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assessment and management of in-patients in the Children’s Ward and Neonatal Unit, including ward rounds.
  • Assessment and management of sick children in the Children’s Assessment Unit and emergency department.
  • Attendance at obstetric deliveries and neonatal resuscitations.
  • Participation in the Tier 2 out-of-hours rota, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Ensuring documentation and communication are up-to-date.
  • Participation in clinical supervision and multidisciplinary team collaboration to ensure seamless care.
  • Conducting outpatient clinics in the postholder’s area of specialization.
