The successful candidates will be responsible for providing high quality teaching support and working as part of the team. The Teaching Assistant will provide learning support and guidance for all pupils, experience working with children who have additional learning needs and children with English as an additional language in the mainstream classroom is essential.
The post requires:
- Sensitivity, empathy and an understanding of the pupils in the school;
- The relevant qualifications and experience in a school setting;
- Excellent Literacy, Numeracy and IT skills;
- A proven track record of excellence;
- Good communication skills with an ability to encourage, motivate and deal with a variety of pupils.
- Is able to support pupil learning within mainstream Foundation Phase/ Key Stage 2 classes
- Can carry out practical tasks which support the smooth running of the school
- Can work effectively as part of a team
- Is confident in supporting pupils with a range of Additional Learning Needs and those with English as an Additional Language.
- Can be positive, optimistic and pro-active within an existing strong team of staff
- Will contribute to the general life of the whole school
- Have high expectations both for children and themselves.
- Support high quality teaching and learning.
- Be willing to contribute to the broader life of the school community
Job PurposeTo support and assist teachers as part of a professional team. To contribute to raising standards of pupils' achievement and to undertake a range of teaching and learning activities under the professional direction and supervision of a qualified teacher, in line with the school's policies and procedures. The role will ensure that the school is giving the opportunity for all children to be included and to remove barriers to allow all children to access the curriculum.
Main DutiesThe following is typical of the duties the postholder will be expected to perform. It is not necessarily exhaustive and other duties of a similar nature and level may be required from time to time.
Teaching and Learning ActivitiesTo help pupils make progress in a range of classroom settings, including working with individuals, small groups and whole classes where the assigned teacher is not present.In line with the school's policy and procedures to use behaviour management strategies which contribute to a purposeful learning environment.To organise and manage safely the physical teaching space and resources for which he/she is responsible.To use ICT effectively to support learning activities and develop pupils' competence and independence in its use.Planning, Monitoring and AssessmentWithin an agreed system of supervision, to plan challenging teaching/learning objectives and deliver learning activities to pupils, making adjustments according to pupil responses/needs, as appropriate.To support teachers in selecting and preparing teaching resources that meet pupils' needs and interests.To support teachers in evaluating pupils' progress through a range of monitoring and assessment activities.To maintain and analyse records of pupils' progress.To provide feedback to pupils and colleagues on pupils' learning and behaviour.Applicants should, in addition, highlight other skills, expertise and previous experience they could bring to the role.
