A healthcare service provider in North East England is seeking an SSD Technician to join their team supporting NHS surgical services. The role involves receiving, decontaminating, and sterilising surgical instruments. Ideal candidates will have strong attention to detail, communication skills, and a willingness to learn. Previous experience in a similar environment is preferred but training will be provided. Working hours are from 4pm-8pm, Monday to Friday.

We currently have some great opportunities to join ourdedicated team, supporting NHS surgical services across County Durham.

County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT)operates a central Sterile Services Department (SSD) based at UniversityHospital of North Durham (UHND). The purpose of the SSD is to supply surgicalteams with all the equipment required for clean, sterile procedures. SSDcollects from and delivers to operating theatres, departments, wards andclinics throughout the Trust.

The SSD is a crucial part of the surgical service, ensuringthat instruments needed for operations are properly sterilised and maintained,and that the risk of patient infections is minimised. The successful candidatewill join a team of experienced SSD staff working alongside our wider clinicalteams.

PLEASE NOTE: The working hours for this post are4pm-8pm Monday to Friday.

Main duties of the job

TheSSD Technician duties include the receipt of used equipment from theatres andwards, the decontamination and sterilisation of instruments, inspection andpacking for delivery back to clinical teams.

Bank work is offered on an 'as and when' basis with no guaranteed hours and will be paid on a pro-rata hourly rate for hours worked only

Previous experience in a similar environment would bepreferred, but full training will be provided.

This post involves manual dexterity and movingequipment that can be physically demanding.

Experience
  • Previous experience of working in a busy environment, providing a professional service.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Previous Sterile Services or NHS experience.

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.

  • Be able to carry out weekend working, and also shift working when required.
Qualifications
  • Good general education or equivalent knowledge gained through work experience.
  • Willingness to undertake any training/educational programme considered necessary to enhance performance in the role.
  • Achieved or willing to work towards NVQ or equivalent.
