Job summary

Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital is seeking a Sterile Services Assistant to join the SSD team on a permanent full-time basis. The role is based at Cambridge and involves handling instruments through cleaning, sterilisation and packing for use in theatre and endoscopy.

You will work 37.5 hours per week with shifts across early and late times; training is provided and benefits include generous annual leave, private medical insurance and a pension.

Qualifications

• Certificate in Decontamination or NVQ/TVQ in Decontamination desirable.
• Willingness to learn and adapt.
• Ability to work in theatres with infection control basics.
• Knowledge of sterilisation equipment is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Receive, sort, clean, disinfect, assemble, sterilize and store instruments.
• Assist theatre team; ensure instruments are correct and ready.
• Monitor instrument repairs.
• Pack linen, instruments and consumables for sterilisation.
• Check function of sterilising equipment per manufacturer instructions.
• Maintain accurate tracking systems.

Sterile Services Assistant | Cambridge | Full Time, Permeant | 37.5 | Excellent Benefits

Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Sterile Services Assistant to join the SSD team on a full time permeant basis.

Duties and responsibilities

• Under general supervision, with opportunity to make independent decisions, performs duties that will include receiving, sorting, inspecting, cleaning, disinfecting, assembling, preparing, sterilizing, storing and issuing reusable surgical instruments and equipment.
• To assist the multi-disciplinary theatre team to provide exemplary care by ensuring theatre and endoscopy instrumentation and equipment are correct and ready for use.
• Monitor repairs of instruments
• Pack linen/instruments/consumables for sterilisation.
• Checking functioning of sterilising and decontamination equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions
• Complete tracking systems accurately.

Who we’re looking for

• Certificate in Decontamination or NVQ level 3 in Decontamination or TVQ level 1 & 2inDecontamination (Desirable)
• Self-Motivated
• Ability to work alone and in teams
• Basic awareness of health, safety and hygiene
• Principles of infection control, fundamentals of microbiology and aseptic technique
• Knowledge of SSD machinery (Desirable)
• Knowledge of basic instruments and equipment (Desirable)
• Knowledge of sterile packing techniques (Desirable)
• Knowledge of ISO standards (Desirable)
• Training can be given for the right candidate

Contract: Permanent full time 37.5

Hours: Shifts could be Monday to Friday anytime between 7am and 9pm and Saturday 8am to 5pm
