Job summary

SUEZ in the United Kingdom is seeking a plant operator to support site operations across loading equipment, vehicle movements and waste handling. You will operate loading shovels, FLT and tele-handlers, direct vehicles to disposal areas and ensure compliance with site paperwork.

The role requires a CITB/CPCS/NPORS certification or willingness to train, a safety-conscious attitude, and flexibility to cover shifts. Experience in waste industry or high-volume production is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Operate loading shovels, FLT and tele-handlers safely across the site.
• Perform pre-operational safety and operator checks daily.
• Carry out daily maintenance on mobile plant and equipment.
• Ensure waste deliveries comply with site licence and paperwork.
• Direct vehicles to disposal areas and assist with off-loading.
• Maintain export paperwork and container seals as required.
• Assist Sampling Operatives with output samples.
• Keep the site clean and tidy at all times.
• Support production staff during end-of-shift clean-ups.
• Contribute to lean and 5S activities for efficiency.
• Work as part of a team to maintain cost-effective operations.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and welfare duties.
• Any other duties reasonably requested within the scope of the job.

Job description

What will I be?

You will carry out the operation of loading shovels, FLT & tele-handlers across the site, loading a variety of different types of vehicles such as curtain sided vehicles, shipping containers and bulk haulage walking floors.

This will involve:

• Ensure safe and efficient operation and use of fixed machinery, such as bailing machines.
• To complete frequent pre-operational safety and operator checks.
• To complete daily checks and maintenance of mobile plant, Fixed Plant and equipment used at the facility.
• Ensuring that all deliveries of waste comply with the site licence and any associated paperwork is completed.
• Carry out inspections on incoming product(s) in line with the site Waste Acceptance Criteria and report any non-compliant loads.
• Direct customer’s vehicles to the various disposal areas and assist them with off-loading as required.
• Ensure compliance with all material export requirements such as photo’s, paperwork and container seals.
• To assist Sampling Operatives with collection of output samples.
• Must ensure that the site is kept clean and tidy at all times.
• Assist Production staff with their duties during end of shift clean-ups and plant downtime.
• Contribute to lean and 5’s activities across the site in order to maintain a clean, organised and efficient workplace.
• To work as part of a team to maintain an efficient and cost-effective operation.
• Ensuring that SUEZ complies fully with its legal duties in respect of the health, safety and welfare of its employees.
• Any other duties that are reasonably requested within the scope of the job role.

What are the requirements?

To ensure immediate impact, we are ideally seeking an experienced plant operator, who holds the relevant CITB/CPCS/NPORS certification or equivalent, but for the right candidate training can be given.

We are looking for an enthusiastic team player, who will be expected to join the current site team to ensure site operations exceed the standards required, so you’ll need:

• A flexible approach to work will be advantageous as you will be expected to cover holiday and sick days if required.
• A safety conscious approach with the desire to develop & embrace change to promote continuous improvement.
• Previous experience within the waste industry or other high-volume production processes is an advantage, but not a necessity.
