Job summary

SiFive in Cambridge, UK, seeks a senior Functional Safety Manager to lead and coordinate functional safety activities for multiple programs in line with ISO 26262. You will drive planning, safety case development and cross-disciplinary collaboration to ensure robust safety across hardware and software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 8 years hands-on hardware/software engineering in semiconductor industry.
• Deep understanding of ISO 26262 or IEC 61508; formal Safety Certification desirable.
• Experience managing functional safety through full product lifecycle (embedded systems).
• Experience with DFMEA, FMEA, FMEDA, DFA and certification bodies.

Responsibilities

• Lead functional safety activities for assigned programs per ISO 26262 and internal requirements.
• Coordinate competency, training, planning and compliance for FuSa practices.
• Create safety plans and monitor safety activities to completion.
• Develop and maintain safety cases demonstrating functional safety.
• Communicate safety status, risks, and progress to senior management.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of FuSa processes and methodologies.
• Develop Safety Package materials (Safety Manual, Interface Agreement, analyses).
• Support safety analyses of hardware (DFMEA, FMEA, FMEDA, DFA).
• Conduct safety impact analyses for product changes and errata.
• Support requirements traceability for FuSa architectures and verification.
• Assist in internal and external FuSa audits and reviews.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure safety requirements are captured and verified.

Job Description:

Responsibilities

• Functional Safety Management: Leading and coordinating all functional safety activities for assigned programs in accordance with ISO 26262 and our internal management system requirements.
• Competency & Compliance: Work with the Organizational FuSa Manager to ensure all relevant FuSa practices are planned and implemented and the required competencies are in place or covered by proper training.
• Safety planning and monitoring: Creating the safety plan, incorporating it into the overall program planning and monitoring the safety activities and tracking it to completion
• Safety Case Development: Creation and maintenance of the safety case, demonstrating achievement of functional safety
• Stakeholder Communication: Communicating safety status, risks and progress to senior management.
• Process Improvement: Contributing to the continuous improvement of our functional safety processes and methodologies.
• Development of Safety Package - Supporting the development of Safety Manual, Development Interface Agreement and Safety Analyses.
• Performing Safety Analysis: Supporting functional safety analysis of hardware including DFMEA, FMEA, FMEDA and DFA
• Impact Analysis: Conducting safety impact analyses for errata affecting the product (e.g., as part of the Bug Review Committee - BRC).
• Requirements Traceability: Supporting FuSa architects, product architects, designers, verification team regarding requirements traceability throughout the development process.
• Audits & Assessments: Supporting and participating in internal and external FuSa audits and assessments.
• Reviews & Approvals: Performing necessary reviews of functional safety workproducts
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working closely with engineering teams (Program management, Architecture, Cybersecurity, Design, DV, Software, System Test, Horizontals, Ptech) to ensure safety requirements are correctly captured, understood, implemented and verified.

Job Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in hardware/software engineering within semiconductor industry
• Deep understanding of ISO 26262 or IEC 61508 frameworks; formal Safety Certification is highly desirable.
• Extensive experience managing functional safety through the entire product lifecycle, including development, rigorous testing, auditing, and QA for embedded systems.
• Experience in functional safety analysis of hardware including DFMEA, FMEA, FMEDA and DFA
• Experience in working with certification bodies to as part of product Functional Safety assessment
• Experience with IP development Life Cycle e.g. HW IP design and verification processes, ASIC design methodologies, development tools and methods, program management practices
• Skilled in utilizing industry-standard tools for requirements traceability, version control, and project management (e.g., Jama, Jira, GitHub).
• A proactive problem-solver with a meticulous eye for detail and the ability to translate complex technical data into clear, actionable documentation.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills and the ability to communicate complex ideas succinctly and persuasively to peers, management.
• Able to work with a high level of independence and as part of a team
