Job Description

The Performance Cable Systems and Materials Division has been a leading designer and manufacturer of high-quality copper and fiber optic communication cables for over 35 years. Our state-of-the-art facility specializes in the design and construction of advanced communication cables. The PCA Category 5e, 6, 6A, and fiber optic cables are engineered to surpass applicable standards and outperform required specifications for applications such as gigabit Ethernet, 10-gigabit Ethernet, VOIP, and POE+.

Position Summary

Responsible for managing and overseeing the Wire and Cable process, ensuring all production equipment operates as specified, proper tooling is managed, and machine tolerances are within proper specifications. Documentation of the process and training technicians and operators are key responsibilities. This position has a dotted line responsibility to the Continuous Improvement Team.

Essential Functions

  1. Oversee equipment to ensure safety; actively participate in and promote Safety Programs.
  2. Support Production Department in process optimization, re-engineering, and troubleshooting.
  3. Collaborate with engineering on new product development and materials evaluation, working closely with manufacturing machine operators.
  4. Train operators and supervision on manufacturing processes.
  5. Manage projects such as product non-conformance testing, tooling coordination, and mechanical/gauge/processing gap analysis.
  6. Coordinate with the Continuous Improvement Manager and department managers to implement process improvements that enhance quality and plant capacity.
  7. Work with Production Control, Engineering, and Commercial Teams to develop schedules for product development projects.
  8. Track new cable samples, verify products, and assist in marketplace introduction.
  9. Maintain process documentation, including process sheets, SDS, visual aids, safety alerts, and R&D files.
  10. Troubleshoot process failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  11. Coordinate technical training for process technicians and engineers.
  12. Assist in mechanical repairs, troubleshooting, and maintenance, working with OEMs, vendors, and maintenance teams.
  13. Mentor process technicians in wire drawing, extrusion, twisting, cabling, tape, braid, lamination, and respooling.
  14. Coordinate with the Quality Manager on the plant’s total quality program.
  15. Implement actions to prevent nonconformities related to product, process, and quality systems.
  16. Collaborate with managers and staff on continuous improvement methods, production standards, and cost control.
  17. Communicate manufacturing and operational issues; recommend strategies for improvement. Participate in plant expansion and equipment planning.
  18. Provide employee training and development; motivate staff to reach their potential.
  19. Follow all safety rules, practice safe behaviors, and report unsafe conditions or injuries immediately.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Required

  • 10+ years of experience as a Process Engineer in the Wire & Cable Industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering; hands-on experience in wire and cable manufacturing is a plus.
  • Prior manufacturing experience, preferably on a production floor.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and their implementation.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office and database programs; ability to learn customized manufacturing systems.
