Job description

The position will be based in Canada. This is a remote position.

POSITION

Qualified candidates are being considered for openings within the Database Operations group. These candidates will possess a strong background in SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL database management and administration. The individual will partner with product support and DevOps CSM to keep databases secured, healthy, and up to date to meet SLAs.

The position is part of the Database Operations group which focuses on managing, maintaining, and securing databases in the AWS Cloud. This position requires extensive experience with MSSQL, MySQL, and PostgreSQL and experience with AWS Cloud services. The candidate is expected to manage SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL databases in the cloud. The candidate should be responsible for managing and maintaining databases in AWS Cloud. The candidate should have a solid understanding of RDS clusters, taking snapshots of RDS instances, monitoring database performance issues, and resolving them, and participating in on-call rotation as needed. Previous experience within Banking and Financial Services is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, upgrade, and manage database servers and schemas.
  • Set and maintain enterprise database standards.
  • Manage database access and develop processes for optimizing database security.
  • Performance tuning of database systems, particularly RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL and MySQL.
  • Create database backups and restore databases from backups.
  • Plan capacity for database servers.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors.
  • Create and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards.
  • Write complex PL/SQL, understand complex queries, and tune complex queries.
  • Automate repeating database tasks.
  • Be available for on-call support.
  • Experience as a DBA with AWS Cloud databases MSSQL, Aurora/RDS PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
  • Monitor database incidents queue and act based on priority.
  • Implement and deploy database changes in Prod and QA environments.
  • Monitor MSSQL, MySQL, and PostgreSQL database performance issues and resolve them.
  • Interact with other DBA team members, product support team, and DevOps CSM, keeping them aware of critical issues at hand.
  • Onsite team member to understand project requirements and goals.
  • Report progress status to team manager on various database support tickets and other projects.
  • Manage, maintain, and secure RDS Aurora PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MSSQL databases.
  • Understand the PL SQL scripts provided in the change and be able to assess if scripts are not well performant or not correct.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve SSRS issues.
  • Proactive and take ownership of highly visible issues and projects.
  • Establish partnerships with other teams and drive projects.
  • Able to provide database-level technical leadership and mentor junior DBAs.
  • Establish database support standards to help in the areas of database support with minimal interruptions.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • 12+ years of IT industry experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in database administration.
  • 10+ years of experience in database administration and development roles in MSSQL, MySQL, and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows Server environments.
  • Extensive experience with database technologies (MySQL, MSSQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Experience in AWS cloud services.
  • Experience with cloud database infrastructure management and administration.
  • Extensive experience in HA/DR in major enterprise database systems.
  • Experience in troubleshooting performance issues from infrastructure and database engine.
  • Experience working with clients and other department leads within the organization.
  • Must have AWS Experience and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL experience.
  • Expert in writing and understanding complex PL/SQL queries.
  • Experience in performance tuning and optimization of complex queries.
  • Expert in PostgreSQL database engine internals.
  • Experience in Datadog monitoring tool.
  • Able to take ownership of critical issues related to databases and AWS services.
