Job summary

CBS Butler is seeking an experienced SQL Server Architect to support migration of an enterprise SharePoint platform from on-premises to AWS. The engagement begins with an eight-week Proof of Value to validate high availability, disaster recovery and performance options.

You will collaborate with infrastructure and AWS architects to design a scalable, resilient and cost-effective SQL Server solution, with emphasis on Always On, FCI and optimized storage for large SharePoint environments.

Qualifications

• 10+ years SQL Server architecture and engineering experience (SQL Server 2016+).
• Expertise with Always On Availability Groups, FCI and HA/DR.
• Experience supporting large-scale SharePoint farms and SQL Server databases.
• Strong SQL Server performance tuning and storage optimisation skills.
• Knowledge of clustering, DNS failover and disaster recovery design.

Responsibilities

• Lead migration of on-prem SharePoint to AWS with SQL Server backend.
• Oversee eight-week PV to assess HA/DR and performance options.

SQL Server Architect

+ Up to £610 per day - Inside IR35

+ Initially 3 months but potentially long term

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced SQL Server Architect to support the migration of an enterprise-scale SharePoint platform from on-premises infrastructure to AWS. The initial eight-week Proof of Value will assess SQL Server high availability, disaster recovery and performance options, with the potential to progress into a detailed architecture and design phase through to the end of 2026.

You will work closely with infrastructure and AWS architects to validate solutions and recommend a scalable, resilient and cost-effective platform.

Essential Technical Skills

• 10+ years' Microsoft SQL Server architecture and engineering experience (SQL Server 2016+).
• Strong experience with Always On Availability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances (FCI) and HA/DR solutions.
• Experience supporting large-scale SharePoint farms and SQL Server databases.
• Strong SQL Server performance tuning, storage optimisation and troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of clustering, networking, DNS failover and disaster recovery design.

Desirable Skills

• AWS experience with EC2, EBS, FSx, Route 53, CloudWatch and AWS Backup.
• Infrastructure automation using Terraform, CloudFormation or PowerShell.
• Azure SQL HA/DR knowledge and experience in regulated environments.
