Role Description

As a SQL Developer within AB’s Operations Technology, you will be instrumental in building out our OLTP application database including backend of the private client business accounting platform. This platform handles large volumes of rapidly processed data and is transitioning from batch processing to real-time operations. This will be a great opportunity to learn accounting principles in depth.

You will have the opportunity to ultimately take over complete ownership of the platform and management of the offshore team. The application includes the private client accounting platform, with some institutional data feeding through and eventually all institutional accounting will be moved into the system. This is a critical application used by the business for start of day trading, performance, client reporting, with many stakeholders across the business.

This is a truly Global department. You will have the opportunity to be sat in the hub of mission control in London, as part of a team which spans across Vietnam, India, Nashville and Mexico. As part of this, you will also have the opportunity to be a leader for the team in Vietnam and play a pivotal role in managing the software development lifecycle and operation of one of AB’s most critical applications.

This is a project and role that will grow and evolve over time. It is therefore crucial that the candidate is adaptive and able to handle the growth in responsibility that will come with this. Of course, the rate in which the role will grow is also down to how much of an impact you are able to make, so you will need to be an ambitious individual with a hunger for growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee a team of 20 offshore developers and QA professionals, supporting the delivery of key projects.
  • Develop SQL Server code (T-SQL) and utilize SSIS for data integration.
  • Create data marts to support reporting and analytics.
  • Provide production support for critical applications.
  • Attend senior business stakeholder meetings.
  • Analyse database systems and create technical requirements.

Qualifications

  • Industry: Financial background is NOT required
  • Collaboration: Enthusiastic and excited about opportunities to collaborate closely with colleagues in India and Vietnam in a globally distributed software development team.

  • Technical Skills:
    • SQL Server: Proficiency in SQL Server development.
    • Large Application Databases: Knowledge of building large, scalable databases.
    • SQL: Understanding of SQL query optimization and performance enhancements.
    • T-SQL: Strong skills in Transact-SQL.
    • SSIS: Experience with SQL Server Integration Services.
    • Service Broker: Familiarity with Service Broker (good to have).
  • Company Background: Experience with mid-sized companies preferred but not essential.
