Job description

Job Overview

The Pointer School is an Independent prep and pre-prep in Blackheath, South East London. We are seeking an inspirational, dedicated, and enthusiastic sports graduate to join our thriving PE department which delivers outstanding sports and games lessons to all children in the school aged 3 to 11.

The successful candidate will have a passion for working with young children, a commitment to the school ethos and coaching experience in at least two sports. The role involves coaching pupils during playtimes, assisting the Head of Sport to deliver curriculum PE lessons and leading co-curricular clubs.

The position would suit someone with a Sports Science, sports-related degree, BTEC Sport or equivalent who has a passion for sport and is committed to developing talent. We invite applications from those who may be considering a career in sport or teaching but we equally welcome interest from those as yet unsure of their professional aspirations. This will be an outstanding opportunity for a recent graduate to hone their coaching and teaching skills in a leading independent prep school.

This position is from September 2025 and is a one-year fixed contract to end in July 2026 (with the possibility to extend). Normal working hours are 09:30 to 17:30 Monday to Friday, during term time only. The Pointer School is a Real Living Wage employer; the annual salary for this role is £20-23k depending on experience and qualifications.

The Pointer School is totally committed to safeguarding the welfare of students and young people and expects the same from its employees. All new staff will be subject to enhanced DBS clearance, identity checks, qualification checks and employment checks to include an exploration of any gaps within employment, two satisfactory references and registration with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Please note that the school performs online checks on shortlisted candidates prior to interview in line with statutory requirements as set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE). You must have the right to work in the UK, hold or be willing to obtain a valid DBS and be at least 18 years old.

At The Pointer School, we are committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse and talented team that reflects the vibrant community we serve. We believe that an inclusive workforce enhances our pupils' learning experiences and fosters a culture of empathy, respect, and belonging. We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, and seek candidates who share our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
