Job summary

Thrive Education is recruiting a Sports Coach with SEN experience to join a wonderful Special Needs school in Knowsley. The role blends Teaching Assistant duties within the SEN provision with delivering engaging sports sessions for pupils with diverse needs.

You will support individual pupils and small groups, plan inclusive activities, and work closely with the SEN team to promote confidence, wellbeing and social skills through sport.

Qualifications

• Proven experience supporting children or young people with SEN.
• Strong behaviour management and ability to tailor sessions to meet individual needs.
• Desirable: De-escalation training; Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willingness to apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN, in line with their EHCPs.
• Plan and deliver inclusive sports and physical activity sessions adapted for pupils with autism, social, emotional, and other learning needs.
• Foster teamwork, participation, and resilience through engaging physical activities.
• Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques when required.
• Collaborate with the SENCO, teaching staff, and external professionals to maintain high-quality support.
• Promote inclusion and pupil engagement, ensuring every child feels valued and supported.

This is a unique dual-role position that combines Teaching Assistant duties within the school's SEN provision with delivering engaging sports and physical activity sessions for students who have a range of additional needs.
