Job description

Sports Coach - Secondary SEMH School
Location: Darwen
Start Date: September 2025 (or earlier if available)
Contract Type: Full-time, term-time only
Pay Rate: £13.75 per hour

We are working in partnership with a specialist Secondary SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in Darwen to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic Sports Coach. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about using sport to support young people who may struggle in mainstream settings due to behavioural, emotional, or social needs.

About the Role:
As a Sports Coach, you'll deliver engaging and structured PE sessions and physical activities for students aged 11-16. Sport plays a key role in this school's approach to developing confidence, teamwork, resilience, and behaviour management skills in their learners.

You'll be expected to:

  • Plan and lead inclusive sports sessions tailored to individual needs

  • Build positive relationships and act as a role model to students

  • Use sport to promote emotional regulation, focus, and teamwork

  • Support classroom teachers and the wider pastoral team when needed

  • Implement consistent and effective behaviour management strategies

Requirements:

  • A recognised sports coaching qualification (minimum Level 2 preferred)

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an SEMH or alternative provision setting

  • Strong behaviour management and excellent communication skills

  • A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach to challenging behaviour

  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
