Job summary

Edge Hill University is seeking a Sports Centre Assistant to join the Operations Team at Edge Hill Sport in Ormskirk. The role covers lifeguarding, equipment setup, and facility maintenance within high quality leisure facilities for students, staff and the community.

Two vacancies exist: one full time (36.25h/week) and one part time (16h/week). A RLSS NPLQ is required or must be achievable within one month. Salary is £24,215 per annum pro-rata for part time.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a busy leisure environment, ideally as part of a lifeguard team.
• A current RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), or the ability to successfully achieve this qualification within one month of employment.
• An approachable and positive attitude, with the ability to develop professional relationships with customers.
• The ability to work independently, with strong time management skills and the ability to use your own initiative.

Responsibilities

• Lifeguarding the swimming pool, including prevention, intervention and rescues for users within their care.
• Preparing, assembling, dismantling, and storing equipment such as trampolines, badminton nets and goal posts.
• Assisting with the opening and closing of the leisure facility.
• Maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the environment.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Sports Centre Assistant to join the Operations Team within Edge Hill Sport. Edge Hill Sport is the university sports service run on behalf of Edge Hill University. Working in close partnership with the Students’ Union and the Academic Sport Department, its aim is to deliver a programme of activities in high quality facilities for the benefit of a wide range of stakeholders including students, staff, community, local schools and National Governing Bodies of Sport.

Working as part of a team, the Sports Centre Assistant will undertake a range of leisure operational duties such as:

• Lifeguarding the swimming pool, including prevention, intervention and rescues for users within their care.
• Ensuring programmed activities and services are available, including preparing, assembling, dismantling, and storing equipment such as trampolines, badminton nets and goal posts.
• Assisting with the opening and closing of the leisure facility.
• Maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the environment.

About You

As Sports Centre Assistant, you will have:

• Previous experience working in a busy leisure environment, ideally as part of a lifeguard team.
• A current RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), or the ability to successfully achieve this qualification within one month of employment.
• An approachable and positive attitude, with the ability to develop professional relationships with customers.
• The ability to work independently, with strong time management skills and the ability to use your own initiative.

A practical assessment will be undertaken at interview to assess your ability to swim 50m in under 60 seconds and also tow a casualty while clothed within a set time limit, along with other tests. Candidates unable to pass the practical assessment will not progress beyond this point.
