Do you believe in the transformative power of sport to engage and educate young people? Our innovative Alternative Provision (AP) school in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, is seeking an inspiring Sports-Based 1:1 Teacher. This is a unique opportunity for both qualified teachers and passionate, experienced individuals to make a profound difference to students who thrive outside traditional classroom settings.

At our AP, we use sports and physical activity as a powerful tool to build confidence, teach essential life skills, improve well-being, and support academic re-engagement for students who have faced barriers to mainstream education. This 1:1 role is central to our personalised approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning and delivering bespoke 1:1 sports-based sessions, adapting activities to meet individual student needs and interests.
  • Using practical sport as a vehicle to teach core subjects, build social skills, and improve emotional regulation.
  • Developing and implementing personalised learning plans (PLPs) focused on both physical and academic progress.
  • Building strong, positive, and trusting relationships with students, many of whom have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs or SEND.
  • Managing challenging behaviours with a trauma-informed and restorative approach.
  • Collaborating closely with the AP team, parents, and external agencies to ensure holistic student support.
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of students during all activities.

We are looking for a Sports-Based 1:1 Teacher who:

  • Has a genuine passion for physical activity and its positive impact on young people.
  • Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with vulnerable students.
  • Is patient, resilient, and creative in their approach to teaching and engagement.
  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) OR possesses significant experience in sports coaching, youth work, or 1:1 support roles within education, particularly with relevant sports qualifications (e.g., NGB coaching awards) and experience working with SEMH/SEND students.

Why join our AP in Barnoldswick, Lancashire?

  • The chance to directly impact individual student success through an active and engaging curriculum.
  • Work within a dedicated and supportive team committed to alternative provision.
  • Opportunity for professional development and training in specialist areas.
  • Contribute to a positive and transformative educational experience in a beautiful Lancashire setting.

Start Date: We are keen to appoint for an immediate start or for September 2025, depending on the successful candidate's availability.
