Job summary

Adecco is seeking a skilled Splunk Engineer to join a large-scale enterprise network environment in Chester. The role is a contract position with a day rate up to £550 (inside IR35 via umbrella).

You will design and maintain Splunk dashboards and alerts, ingest and normalise network telemetry, and collaborate with Network Engineering and Observability teams. Responsibilities include improving monitoring coverage, validating data quality, and supporting major deployments.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience with Splunk including ingestion, dashboards, search, reporting and alerting.
  • Strong understanding of network monitoring and telemetry technologies.
  • Experience with SNMP, Syslog, APIs, device metrics, telemetry streams.
  • Solid understanding of enterprise networking concepts (Routing, Switching, Wireless, SD-WAN).
  • Experience supporting operational environments and troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with focus on data quality.
  • Excellent communication skills with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain Splunk dashboards, searches, reports and visualisations.
  • Collect, ingest, normalise and manage network telemetry data.
  • Develop and optimise alerting to identify performance degradation and availability risks.
  • Partner with Network Engineering to understand device behaviour and requirements.
  • Support incident management, RCA and proactive problem identification.
  • Validate telemetry data quality and availability.
  • Identify gaps in monitoring and improve observability across the network estate.
  • Support onboarding of new network technologies into monitoring.
  • Collaborate with Observability and Monitoring Architects to align telemetry with strategy.
  • Document telemetry sources, dashboards and alert logic.
  • Participate in major network deployments and change activities.

Splunk Engineer

Location: Chester - 3 days onsite per week Contract Day Rate: Up to 550 per day (inside IR35 via umbrella)

About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Splunk Engineer to join a large-scale enterprise technology environment, helping to drive the next generation of network monitoring, observability, and operational analytics.

In this role, you'll be responsible for transforming network telemetry into actionable insight, enabling Operations and Engineering teams to proactively identify issues, improve service performance, and enhance operational resilience. You'll work closely with Network Engineering, Operations, and Observability teams to design and deliver monitoring solutions that provide visibility across a complex estate spanning routing, switching, wireless, and SD-WAN technologies.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Splunk professional with strong networking knowledge who enjoys solving complex operational challenges and working with large volumes of telemetry data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain Splunk dashboards, searches, reports, and visualisations that support operational monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Collect, ingest, normalise, and manage network telemetry data, including logs, metrics, events, and streaming data.
  • Develop and optimise alerting capabilities to proactively identify performance degradation, service disruption, and availability risks.
  • Partner with Network Engineering teams to understand device behaviour, performance indicators, and operational requirements.
  • Support incident management, root cause analysis, and proactive problem identification through effective telemetry and monitoring solutions.
  • Validate telemetry data quality, ensuring information is accurate, complete, and available when required.
  • Identify gaps in monitoring coverage and implement improvements to strengthen observability across the network estate.
  • Support the onboarding of new network technologies and platforms into the monitoring environment.
  • Collaborate with Observability and Monitoring Architects to align telemetry solutions with enterprise monitoring strategies.
  • Document telemetry sources, dashboards, alert logic, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in major network deployments and change activities, validating monitoring and alerting effectiveness.
Skills & Experience
Essential
  • Proven experience working with Splunk, including data ingestion, dashboard development, search creation, reporting, and alerting.
  • Strong understanding of network monitoring and telemetry technologies.
  • Experience working with:
    • SNMP
    • Syslog
    • APIs
    • Device metrics
    • Telemetry streams
  • Solid understanding of enterprise networking concepts including:
    • Routing
    • Switching
    • Wireless networking
    • SD-WAN
  • Experience supporting operational environments and troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on data quality and actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical and operational stakeholders.
Desirable
  • Experience with Splunk ITSI or enterprise observability solutions.
  • Scripting and automation skills using Python or APIs.
  • Exposure to software-defined or controller-based networking environments.
  • Knowledge of automation and CI/CD-enabled infrastructure deployments.
  • Experience supporting large-scale network environments with thousands of devices.
  • Understanding of network KPIs, availability metrics, capacity monitoring, and performance analysis.
