Speech and Language Therapy Support Practitioner

Location: Minehead, Somerset

Salary: £23,804.83 - £25,960.16 (FTE £25,729.60 - £28,059.20)

Hours: 40 hours per week - Term time only/42 weeks

Welcome to Aurora Foxes, an educational establishment with residential provision. We are a specialist college and training hotel for young people (16-25 years) with learning disabilities, situated in Minehead. Foxes is a special place where students work at our hotel and are integrated into the community.

We aim to change lives by giving students skills, knowledge, and confidence to shape their future, focusing on life and hospitality skills to prepare them for work and life.

Main purpose of the role

We seek an enthusiastic, caring individual to work as part of the Speech and Language Therapy team and the wider multidisciplinary team at Aurora Foxes. You will support a Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) in clinical and administrative tasks, work directly with students or groups, assist in assessments, report on progress, support resource development, and contribute to service development.

Key duties

• Support the efficient operation of the Speech and Language Therapy Service to meet students' needs.
• Manage therapy resources daily.
• Ensure compliance with Aurora policies and protocols.
• Adapt your approach and communication style to deliver functional, client-centered therapy.
• Perform observations and record-keeping to support ongoing assessments, providing feedback to SaLT and seeking advice when needed.
• Maintain accurate case notes following professional standards and policies under SaLT supervision.
• Attend external training to qualify as an Aurora Foxes Elklan lead, delivering training and monitoring effectiveness to meet accreditation standards.
• Undertake other duties as assigned by SaLT, Head of Therapy, or Senior Leadership Team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English at grade C or above
• Commitment to professional development
• Interest and understanding of young people's communication skills
• Experience working with children or young adults with learning needs
• Teamwork and liaison skills with colleagues and agencies
• Good time management and organizational skills
• Computer skills for administrative tasks (email, internet, Microsoft Office)
