Specialist Speech & Language Therapist GOLDEN HELLO BONUS £3000 SUBJECT TO T & C'S Ipswich Salary: £35,392 to £42,618 DOE, pro rata Hours: Up to 22.5 hours per week

MAIN PURPOSE: To work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing speech and language therapy (SaLT) within the Brainkind Neurobehavioural model to People We Support with acquired brain injury (ABI), and to lead on SaLT provision within the service. To liaise with internal and external professionals, family members, and People We Support.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Apply the neurobehavioural approach to brain injury, demonstrating knowledge of current research findings and best practices.
  2. Manage and prioritise a caseload of People We Support with complex needs and/or challenging behaviour.
  3. Use evidence-based practice, service user-centred principles, and clinical reasoning for assessment, planning, and intervention.
  4. Undertake comprehensive assessments considering environment, context, and future plans to formulate appropriate goals, care plans, and therapy programmes.
  5. Overcome communication barriers to engage People We Support in assessments and discharge planning, including working within legal frameworks for those lacking capacity.
  6. Seek consent from People We Support or advocate for inclusion and sharing of information respecting confidentiality.
  7. Provide information about communication abilities and support needs.
  8. Complete swallowing assessments, providing recommendations, care plans, referrals, and staff training for dysphagia management.
  9. Comply with risk management and safeguarding responsibilities, seeking improvements and actions as needed.
  10. Complete risk assessments and promote health and safety in the work area.
  11. Exercise duty of care in all aspects of the role.
  12. Maintain equipment and inventory, informing management of needs.
  13. Maintain HCPC registration and portfolio requirements.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership: Work flexibly and creatively as an autonomous professional, promote quality and improvement, develop collaborative relationships, lead service planning and evaluation, and act as a role model.

Research and Development: Undertake research/audit, participate in service sustainability, and liaise with clinical teams and networks.

Facilitation of Learning: Support learning culture, contribute to training, promote awareness of speech therapy, and participate in supervision.

Personal Development: Maintain and improve own practice, participate in training, and seek advice/support as needed. Undertake mandatory training and other learning opportunities.
