Job description

Speech and Language Therapist
Location: Oldbury, Birmingham
Hours: 7.5 hours per week
Rate: £21.54 per hour

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a specialist adult care provider for a Speech and Language Therapist to support individuals within a well-established locked rehabilitation service in Birmingham. This role offers the opportunity to work in a supportive, structured setting with adults who have a range of needs including learning disabilities, autism spectrum conditions (ASC), and mental health diagnoses.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine impact in a clinical environment designed to help individuals achieve improved communication and independence.

The Setting

The service is a registered hospital with 13 en-suite bedrooms and 2 transitional flats, supporting men who may be detained under the Mental Health Act or subject to deprivation of liberty safeguards. The focus is on structured rehabilitation in a safe and therapeutic environment.

Located in a quiet residential area with free staff parking and excellent transport links to Birmingham, Wolverhampton, and Dudley, the setting offers a positive working environment with accessible amenities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct speech and language therapy input as part of multi-disciplinary review meetings

  • Assess communication needs and develop individualised communication passports and guidelines

  • Offer specialist guidance to staff teams, and where relevant, families and other professionals

  • Carry out assessments related to eating, drinking, and swallowing, and advise accordingly

  • Consult with colleagues from other disciplines to support holistic care planning

  • Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to relevant data collection

  • Participate in regular supervision and adhere to professional and ethical standards

  • Work in line with internal policies and national guidelines from HCPC and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists

About You

To be considered for this role, you must:

  • Hold a recognised degree or postgraduate diploma in Speech and Language Therapy

  • Be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)

  • Have excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team

  • Be confident in delivering assessments and interventions in a structured care setting

  • Have an empathetic, patient-centred approach
